Abstract: | :ortho-Carboxymaleanilic acids (I) undergo intramolecular double cyclisation to give pyrrolo-benzoxazinones (II) in excellent yields when treated with sodium acetate-acetic anhydride whereas the corresponding fumaranilic acids (III) under these conditions furnish 3, 1-benzoxazinones (IV.) |
