晚清勤政廉政的杰出代表——刚直不阿的镇江知府王仁堪

作为晚清少有的廉政勤政的典型，镇江知府王仁堪以他的一身正气、两袖清风，真正做到了鞠躬尽瘁、死而后已。他在镇江任上三年，坚持以实心行实政，兴修水利、兴学设教，遗爱在民，以致积劳成疾，在转任苏州知府不足三个月后即因病离世。镇江当地百姓听闻噩耗后无不唏嘘哭泣，更有乡绅联名上奏朝廷请于国史馆立传。直至今日，王仁堪的名字仍为镇江人所乐道。

A model of the diligent, honest, serf-disciplined officials in ancient China --Zhenjiang Magistrate Wang Renkan and his model deeds

As a rare honest and diligent typical official in the late Qing Dynasty, Zhenjiang Magistrate Wang Ren- kan, being upright and uncorrupted, really devoted himself to his cause until his death. During his three-year office in Zhenjiang, he adhered to the solid line and solid governance, building water conservancy projects and schools, spreading love among the people, which resulted in his sickness from overwork. After he was transferred to Suzhou he was in office less than three months and then died of illness. Zhenjiang local people were all in sorrow upon hearing the bad news of his death. More squires wrote to the Central Government jointly and asked to compile biography for him. Wang Renkan is still in Zhenjiang people＇s heart.
