Abstract: | Spectroscopic measurements in the near-infrared region are suggested to determine the octane number of petroleum products. Statistical regression analysis of the absorption spectra of hydrocarbons is used for calculating the gasoline octane number and several other physicotechnical parameters of fuel. The knock rating of commercial gasoline was determined with a specially designed analyzer. Its working parameters and limiting capabilities in determining the octane number are discussed. |
