X-ray K-absorption edge analysis of chlorine in complex compounds

The X-ray K-absorption spectrum of chlorine has been investigated using URS-II spectrometer equipped with quartz crystal analyser and proportional counter. The intensity of the narrow selective absorption line appearing on the low energy side of the edge has been carefully studied. The results have been explained on the basis of the molecular orbital theory and information regarding the nature of bonding and coordination has been deduced.
