Abstract: | The solvent-induced racemization of chlorosilanes takes place by an increase in coordination of the silicon atom. The rate-equation and activation parameters have been determined in a kinetic study: the equation is first order in chlorosilane and second order in solvent.The results obtained suggest that pseudo-rotation of a pentacoordinated intermediate does not take place, but they do not allow distinction between two other possible intermediates: a hexacoordinated octahedral intermediate or a pentacoordinated bipyramidal siliconium ion. |
