| Abstract: | The type of association of aliphatic α-oxo acids, RCOCOOH, in benzene depends on the alkyl substituent R. Since this effect has also been observed in p-alkyl-phenylglyoxylic acids, it cannot be explained in terms of intramolecular steric interactions but is due to the variation in the lyophilic behaviour of the dissolved molecules. |
