| Abstract: | It has been shown that tert-butyldimethylsilylated (Z) 2-carboethoxymethylene cycloalkanols are readily desilylated with concomitant cyclization to give the corresponding butenolides. The (E) isomers are desilylated, but not cyclized under these conditions. |
