| Abstract: | Addition of organocopper reagent RCu(Me2S), MgBr2 to acetylenic esters gives vinylcopper complex which reacts with various electrophiles to afford mono and disubstituted maleates. Deprotection of substituted maleates and dehydration provide the corresponding maleic anhydride in good yield. |
