Recent advances in the design of polymers for contact lenses

Three approaches for the design of polymers for extended wear contact lenses possessing high oxygen permeability are described. These approaches include the design of high strength, high water content hydrogels, the design of low water content fluorosilicone based materials and the design of hydrogels based on methacrylate end capped hydrophilic side chain siloxanes.
