Abstract: | The discover of the first planets around a pulsar 1992 and a pulsar 1992 had around a main sequence star different from our Sun 1995 has opened, after centuries of speculation, a new era in astronomy. The motivations behind the search for ‘other worlds” are presented. A comperative review is made of different techniquess for their detection. Special attention is paid to the planet parameters which can be derived in each method. The first discoveries and their astrophysical consequences are coflined, A review of new ques-tions and future projects beyond these first discoveries is given. |
