Differential thermal analysis of negatively charged polystyrene latices

Abstract:To study vicinal water structure around polystyrene latex particles differential thermal analysis (DTA) has been utilized. Measurements of programmable water thermodesorption from polystyrene surfaces under dynamic and quasiisothermal conditions were made. Therefore, the adsorption potential distribution function was calculated and the hydrophobicity of polystyrene surfaces determined. DTA is presented as a useful method to study the interfacial properties of polymer colloids.
