Abstract: | 4-Hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridones 3 can be obtained in excellent yields from azomethines 1 with trichlorophenylmalonates 2 . The variation of the substituents in positions 1, 3, 5 or 6, respectively is possible over a wide range. In this manner the 5,6-fused-pyridones 5, 7 can also be obtained. The synthesis of 1-unsubstituted pyridones via debenzylation of 1-benzyl-pyridones 3a,b is described. The chlorination is found to yield isomer 2-and 4-chloro pyridones 8 and 9 and the dichloropyridine 10. |
