| Abstract: | The one electron Schrödinger equation for an infinite sheet may have Bloch states that live on the sheet and have positive energy with respect to the vacuum. Such states occur for special values of k in the two dimensional Brillouin zone and form, in general, “line bands” and “point bands”. The decay into the continuum is prevented by the space group symmetry. |
