Abstract: | One of the worst accidents that may occur in a high-vacuum-multilayer-insulation (HVMLI) cryogenic tank is a sudden, catastrophic
loss of insulating vacuum (SCLIV). The influence of SCLIV on the heat transfer characteristics in a HVMLI cryogenic tank has
been researched experimentally in this paper. A test rig was built up and experiments were conducted using LN2 as the test medium. Some important phenomena and heat transfer characteristics in a vacuum-lost LN2 HVMLI cryogenic tank have been obtained. The effects of the insulation layer numbers and the initial liquid level on venting
rate and heat flux leaking into the cryogenic liquid as well as the temperatures of wall and liquid have been analyzed and
discussed for a LN2 HVMLI cryogenic tank after SCLIV in this paper. |
