Macroscopic far-field observation of the sub-wavelength near-field dipole vortex

Abstract:The energy flow lines of the radiation emitted by a rotating electric dipole moment have a vortex structure near the source. The spatial extend of this vortex is well below an optical wavelength. This near-field vortex has a macroscopic effect which could be observed in the far field.
