Abstract: | ABSTRACT ABSTRACT A differential-equation formulation is presented for the equations governing the small-deflection elastic behavior of thin plates laminated of anisotropic bimodulus materials (which have different elastic stiffnesses depending upon the sign of the fiber-direction strains). As a basis for comparative evaluation of a finite-element formulation previously reported, an exact closed-form solution is presented for a freely supported rectangular plate subjected to a sinusoidally distributed normal pressure. For the special case of isotropic bimodulus materials, a simplified approximate solution is deduced from the exact one. Good agreement is obtained between the two solutions presented here, as well as with numerical results existing in the literature for a special case and with finite-element results. |
