Direct nitration and acetylation of the furan nucleus of 1-alkyl-2-[Β -(2′-furyl) vinyl]-benzimidazoles

The direct nitration and acetylation of 1-methyl-, 1-ethyl-, and 1-benzyl-2--(2-furyl)vinyl]benzimidazoles has given the corresponding 1-alkyl- and 1-benzyl-2--(5-nitro-2-furyl)vinyl]benzimidazoles and 1-alkyl- and 1-benzyl-2--(5-acetyl-2-furyl)vinyl]benzimidazoles.
