Abstract: | The catalytic properties of a sample of 20% V2O5/TiO2 and its derivative, 12% V2O5/TiO2, which was obtained by the treatment of the catalyst with nitric acid and did not contain bulk V2O5 species, were compared. In spite of a significant difference in the vanadium contents, the activity of both of the samples in the process of the gas-phase aerobic oxidation of ethanol to acetaldehyde and acetic acid was found to be the same. It was hypothesized that a monolayer of vanadium oxide on the surface of TiO2 made the main contribution to the catalytic activity. |
