Analytical evaluation of the line shape of single-mode semiconductor lasers

A simple analytical expression for the line shape of single-mode semiconductor lasers is derived accounting for the presence of the well-known satellite peaks which cause deviation from the classical lorentzian form. An expression for the variance of the difference between the values the instantaneous phase of the field assumes over different time intervals is also obtained which is in good agreement with previously reported experimental results.
