Abstract: | The negative hydration, that is the increase in the mobility of water molecules near sufficiently large single-charged ions, is studied by modeling, cold-neutron scattering, and computer modeling. Special attention is paid to the mechanism of negative hydration and the boundary of transition from positive to negative and from negative to hydrophobic hydration. Hypothetical ions with radii of approximately 1.1 and 3.3 Å correspond to these boundaries. Dynamic characteristics of hydration water in these ions are identical to those of water molecules in bulk water. |
