Generic symmetry breaking and the Landau expansion |

Abstract: | A new type of “generic” symmetry breaking is predicted using group theory selection rules. Using a Landau expansion, the new phase is generated by a symmetry breaking term of eighth degree. Since low degree anisotropic terms are absent, the associated continuous transition is called “Curie” critical. A two component order parameter Landau expansion is explicitly analysed. The phase diagram is presented. |
