Abstract:Rapid internal conversion (6×108 s-1) from the S1 (π π*) state of indolo [2,3-b] quinoxaline is observed in ethanol, apparently due to a specific hydrogen bonding interaction. In other solvents (heptane, dioxane and acetonitrile) radiationless transition occurs via intersystem crossing.
