Abstract:A mass balance model in packed column gas-liquid chromatography is established with the consideration of both solute partition between gas and liquid phase and solute adsorption on gas-solid, liquid-solid and gas-liquid interface. The first moment and the second, third central moments are derived, which can be reduced to more specific expressions by Giddings and Van Deemter in gas-liquid and gas-solid chromatography or gas-liquid-solid chromatography. Effects of adsorption on retention value, height equivalent to a theoretical plate and peak asymmetry are discussed.
