Abstract: | The crystal and molecular structure of N-(1-silatranylmethyl)benzimidazole was established by X-ray diffraction. The coordination polyhedron of the silicon atom in this molecule is a trigonal bipyramid. The bond lengths and angles of the N-(1-silatranylmethyl)benzimidazole (SMBI) molecule are compared with the corresponding values for other derivatives of this heterocycle. The silatranylmethyl group, having a high electron-donor inductive effect, does not increase the total aromaticity of the SMBI molecule. |
