Abstract:The toxicity and harmfulness of cadmium on environment and human being are well known. The sources of cadmium pollution include electroplating operation, smelting operation, dye, battery, and the waste from chemical industry. Graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) was commonly recommended for the determination of Cd in water sample due to the rather low concentration. However, the matrix effects of the concomitants such as NaCl, CaCl2 limit the analytical accuracy of Cd by GFAAS. Chemical modifiers are usually employed to overcome the matrix effects in GFAAS.
