Transformation properties of the integrable evolution equations

Group-theoretical properties of partial differential equations integrable by the inverse scattering transform method are discussed. It is shown that nonlinear transformations typical to integrable equations (symmetry groups, Bäcklund-transformations) and these equations themselves are contained in a certain universal nonlinear transformation group.
