The g-factor of the first excited 2+ state in 26Mg from transient field precession measurements

Abstract:Transient field (TF) precessions of the first excited 2+ state in 24,26Mg have yielded g = +0.50 (13) for 26Mg. Contrary to an earlier measurement the present data is in good agreement with Hartree-Fock calculations. The large effective TF of 280 (30) T at Mg nuclei for νion ≈ 2.0 ν0 is attributed to K-shell polarization of the ions.
