Abstract: | The cw resonance Raman spectra of the products of electrochemical oxidation of 4-(N,N-dialkylamino)biphenyl compounds, with alkyl = methyl, methyl-d3 or ethyl, are analyzed and compared with the time-resolved resonance Raman spectra of the photogenerated radical cation of these amines. The anodic oxidation is shown to lead to the formation of the respective N,N,N′,N′-tetraalkylbenzidine radical cation and dication, and a mechanism scheme for the oxidation is proposed. |
