Sample handling strategies for the analysis of non-volatile organic compounds from environmental water samples

There is a need for faster, simpler and automated methods for concentration and isolation of organic compounds from environmental water samples. On-line coupling of sample preparation to chromatographic analysis is a powerful strategy but trace-level determination requires selective solid-phase extractions to remove matrix interferences. Means for achieving selective sample handling are reviewed.
