Abstract: | The conformation of four types of polyhydroxyethers and one amine-cured triglycidyl isocyanurate resin were studied. Static and dynamic light scattering as well as small angle neutron scattering revealed a scarcely detectable influence of branching on the overall dimensions. The branching density has, however, a very pronounced effect on the intrinsic viscosity. The behavior of the latter results from the inverse proportionality of the intrinsic viscosity to the segment density. Estimation of this apparent density gave swelling ratios of only 2 to 5. The cured epoxy resins showed no swelling up to molecular weights of 10 000; in the higher molecular weight region the swelling ratios increase continuously up to a factor of 9. |
