Abstract:
The development of particle morphology and crystalline structure during the dehydration, oxidation, and reduction processes of goethite to iron needles was investigated by HREM. It is shown that the typical geometry of the particles is preserved during all transformation steps, and that initial internal defects of the crystalline structure caused by twinning of the goethite vanish, while some new defects are created.
