Abstract: | Thermogravimetry and pyrolysis—gas chromatography are well known methods for investigating the thermal stability and structure of polymeric materials. In this paper, the possibilities of applying the little known stepwise pyrolysis—gas chromatography for evaluating the thermal stability of modified viscose fibres are discussed. The temperature dependence of the evolution of water, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide on thermal degradation of flameproved viscose fibres has been investigated and the data are compared with the thermogravimetric curves.Stepwise pyrolysis—gas chromatography provides reproducible quantitative data on the decomposition of polymers and combines some of the advantages of thermogravimetry and pyrolysis—gas chromatography. |
