Fischer-Tropsch Analogous Reactions of CO/H₂ and CO₂/H₂ on Surface Chromium(II) Surface chromium(II)/silicagel catalyzes the reduction of CO and CO₂ by hydrogen to CH₄, C₂H₆ and C₃H₈. The catalyst is partially desactivated by this reaction, but a permanent activity of ca. 30% remains. – The reaction can be formulated via the sequence formaldehyde complex → <CH₂>-complex → alkane. If cycloalkenes or chlorobenzene are added simultaneously, these scavenger molecules are methylated by <CH₂>.
