| Abstract: | Certain primary, secondary, and tertiary amines have been successfully employed as catalysts for the phase transfer catalytic alkylation of phenyl acetone. Studies strongly suggest that the alkylation is preceded by conversion of the amine catalyst into a quarternary ammonium salt. |
