| Abstract: | The Mannich reaction of isatin with different primary and secondary amines and effect of the substituent in aromatic amines on the reaction pathway is studied. The efficient high‐yield synthesis of novel isoindigo derivatives by the mild deoxygenation reaction of the corresponding isatins with tris(diethylamino)phosphine is described. |
