Thick target technique for proton induced ionisation cross-section measurements—a re-evaluation

The potential of the thick target technique for the measurement of proton induced ionisation cross-section is re-examined. The usefulness of this technique is compared with that of the thin target technique. For medium Z elements and proton energies of above 1 MeV the thick target approach is found to produceK-shell ionisation cross-sections which are comparable in accuracy with those obtained from thin target measurements.
