| Abstract: | [reaction: see text] Schiff bases of aromatic aldehydes and anilines that fail to react with triethylaluminum are smoothly alkylated at room temperature in the presence of lanthanide catalysts. The alkylation takes place selectively at the vinylic carbon atom. |
