Reactions of copper(II) ions with reducing, precipitating or complexing agents have been used to demonstrate the advantages of carrying out chemical experiments under a microscope. Typically in a droplet of water, sometimes moderated by addition of silica gel, a beautiful facet of nature can be discovered under the microscope. Side effects of the method described here are chemical savings as well as minimization of waste and risk.
