Optimization of the prism monochromator in measuring the transmittance curve of a filter

Through analysis of the influence of the incident and exit slit width on the spectrum width of exiting light and the transmittance curve of a filter, a result is obtained theoretically and experimentally that measured transmittance curve of a certain filter is best when the width of incident slit equals that of exit slit. At the same time, by analyzing the relationship between the minimum shift of driving wheel of monochromator and the range of spectrum of exiting light, the best value for the per-shift of the readings of driving wheel is given.
