Reactions of butane and isobutane to CO and CO2 catalyzed by iron oxide treated with sulfate ion

Abstract:Catalysts which were obtained by exposing Fe(OH)3 and Fe2O3 prior to the crystallization to 0.5 N H2SO4 and then calcining in air at 500 °C were highly active for oxidations of butane and isobutane to CO and CO2 below 300 °C, while iron oxides prepared without the sulfate treatment were completely inactive.
