Abstract: | The kinetics of the oxidation of diethyl sulfide (Et2S) with hydrogen peroxide, catalyzed by hydrogen carbonate and silicate anions, agree with the assumption that peroxymonocarbonate (HCO–
4) and peroxymonosilicate (HSiO–
4) anions are formed as intermediates. The rate of reaction of Et2S with HCO–
4 is about 100 times as fast as with H2O2. Transfer to aqueous–alcoholic solutions leads to an increase in the solubility of Et2S while retaining the catalytic effects. |
