Magnetic field induced phase transition of a three-dimensional electron gas

Abstract:Photoelectron energy distributions of Ni(100) have been calculated in the photon energy range 30 – 80 eV. A strong resonance due to interband transitions appears at 5 eV binding energy. Its connection to the experimentally observed resonance, interpreted as a many-body phenomenon, is discussed.
