A XPS study of Fe1-χCuχCr2S4

Abstract:The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is applied for a chalcogen chromite system Fe1 ? xCuxCr2S4 to obtain microscopic information about valence states of the constituting atoms. The features of the Cu 2p spectra show that copper is always in a monovalent state in this system. This supports a model Fe3+1 ? xCu1+xCr3+2S1-2x ? 1S2-5 ? 2x for a compositional range 0.5 < x < 1.
