Summary In order to determine the roots of an algebraic equation of the fourth degree with real coefficients and removed cubic term a method of splitting up in two quadratic factors is used. The method follows in principle a procedure used, e. g. byZurmühl andBuckingham to determine the coefficients of the quadratic factors, but permits the use ofNewton-Raphson's method instead of linear or quadratic interpolation.
