Abstract: | pH titration curves for the neutralization of an alternating co-polymer of maleic acid and n-butylvinylether (MAnBVE) with tetrabutylammoniumhydroxide (TBAOH) are reported, and compared to the case of neutralization with NaOH or tetraethylammoniumhydroxide (TEAOH). With TBA+ counterions the compact form of the polymer is stabilized, remaining the preferred form up to higher net charge densities. This tendency is enhanced at higher temperature. Free energy changes of the conformational transition are higher for TBA+ than for TEA+ or Na+ as counterions. |
