Abstract:We has investigated the self-trapping and self-focusing phenomena of a light beams propagating in any direction in uniaxial crystal of symmetry classes 6/mmm (hexagonal ) and 4/mmm (tetragonal). It is found that the critical powers are anisotropic (dependent on the proP8gation direction) for the extraordinary light and isotropic for the ordinary light, and that the self-trapping beam for the extraordinary light is elliptical shaped.
