INFLUENCE OF ATOMIC MOTION ON SPONTANEOUS EMISSION FROM A THREE-LEVEL ATOM

Abstract:The effects of atomic centre of mass motion on the spontaneous emission in free space are investigated.The atom is treated as a three level system with two upper levels,each of which is coupled by the same vacuum modes to the lower level.The results show that the centre of mass motion can result in destroying of the quantum interference between the decay processes from the two upper levels and broadening of the spontaneous emission spectrum.
