Abstract: | The Hall-Vinen-Bekarevich-Khalatnikov theory is applied to the laminar flow of superfluid helium through capillary tubes. Velocity profiles obtained for the superfluid are interpreted in terms of the motion of vortex rings. The thermodynamic potential gradient as a function of the average superfluid and normal fluid velocities compares favourably with recent experimental results. It is concluded that the vortex rings originate at the wall and disappear at the tube axis. |
