Effect of heating rate in thermoelastic stress production

Abstract:Using pulses of monochromatic MeV electrons from a linear accelerator to heat copper and tantalum samples, measurements of thermoelastic stresses were made as a function of heating rate. The results were compared with the predictions of thermoelastic wave theory, and good agreement was found.
