Abstract: | It is shown that for fixed kinetic energy density the maximum flow rate principle previously used for determining the radius of the free surface of an incompressible fluid flowing from a centrifugal nozzle admits an equivalent formulation within the context of the Lagrangian formalism, which means that the principle can easily be extended to the case of a compressible gas.
